Restaurant Week Won over Wilmington
restweekadThe first Restaurant week for Wilmington was a hugely successful event according to both participants and restaurants. The restaurants reported an apparent increase in traffic and expressed a genuine interest in making the program a bi-annual or quarterly event. According to consumer feedback, many of the participants stated that it was a fantastic idea to have the week long event because there were many restaurants that were participating that were of interest and the deals were so great that they took advantage of several offers that it introduced them to eateries. Participating restaurants included: The Melting Pot, Sienna Trattoria, Henry's, Eddie Romanelli's, East inside Blockade Runner, South Beach Grill, Wrightsville Grille, Buoy 32 Bistro, Islands Fresh Mex Grille, The Oceanic, Bluewater Grill, Caprice Bistro, Yo Sake, Little Dipper, Aubriana's, Fat Tony's, Ruth's Chris, Hell's Kitchen, Caffe Phoenix, River Boat Landing, Deluxe Cafe, Hieronymus Seafood, Nikki's Fresh Gourmet & Sushi, Nikki's Hibachi Steak House, Sticky Fingrs, Priddy Boys, Cape Fear Seafood.

The Foodies get to The Basics
basicgroupAt the first of three scheduled Foodies Dining Events for this month, the newly added "Lunch Bunch" met up for a wonderful meal at the downtown location of the The Basics. Most were new to this restaurant and were pleasantly surprised by the simplicity of the southern menu and the expertise by which all the items were freshly prepared. We were privy to an excellent selection of entree "sharing" as this group is frequently wheeling and dealing to share and taste at the table. It's not a rule but many of the regulars have incorporated the option into our official acceptable table etiquette. "I'll trade you half of my pimento sandwich for half of your BLT" stated Matt to Kerry. "Sounds good to me, will you add a sample of your grits?" she replied. "This was a great idea," added Wende. The smaller lunch group option was recently added to our regular monthly meeting schedule so that we could open up additional options and of course, visit another restaurant during the month. Here's what the group had to say about our visit to the Basics...

Midtown Seafood Opens
midtownThe new Midtown Seafood Restaurant opened last week. The location which was most recently the Soho Steakhouse is now serving a variety of steamed and "Calabash" seafood with prices ranging from $8.95 for a shrimp Po Boy and crab cake sandwich, $9.95 for Calabash style seafood and deluxe Calabash platters from $11.95 and up. The restaurant also features a "low country boil called the Steam Pot for 2 - which includes peel and eat shrimp, oysters, mussels, clams, crab legs, sausage, red potatoes, and corn on the cob. The restaurant is geared for a casual dining experience in an attractive setting. Dining in the bar area is no smoking.
Dine Wilmington Foodies will feature an exclusive dining group to the location and a special sample menu for our monthly Meetup scheduled on August on August 25th.
Midtown Seafood is located at 4106 Oleander Drive.
