Local Chef, Hakim Clemmons died Sunday in his home in downtown Wilmington.
This sudden loss is felt throughout our local restaurant industry and our community. We have lost not only an incredibly talented chef, but a friend. Hakim's generous and gentle nature along with his infectious smile made being in his presence a joyful experience.

Where has Dee been Lately? What's Hot, What's Happening:
I FINALLY made it to a sit down at Osteria Cicchetti (aka the O.C.) in The Forum on Military Cutoff the other nite. I had perused a menu but never really studied the plethora of options until I was seated at the impressive, marble square bar with my ½ L of Cantele Chardonnay. Normally I can scan and select my cravings in under a minute…but my taste buds continuously changed their mind.

The Cheese Sandwich Film Festival
On Wednesday, April 1st of this year, the day most of us know just as “April Fools”, a unique and experimental film and food event, brand new to the world, will occur in downtown Wilmington. Hosted in the outside venue of Jengo’s Playhouse, off 8th and Princess, the Cheese Sandwich Film Festival will be cooking up cheese sandwiches, serving beverages, and screening films that honor and highlight the fabulous cheese sandwich, all night.
Although this will obviously be the inaugural year of the festival, there has been an enormous amount of planning and purpose put into the event, which will include a live DJ, live band (http://www.purevolume.com/fortressofswatches), cheese sandwich cook off contest, and a winner’s ceremony celebration for the victors of each film category. This event is said to be so exciting, in fact, that the top of the website’s homepage (http://www.cheesesandwichfilmfestival.com) reads, “…nothing will be able to top the Cheese Sandwich Film Festival in your entire lives. So, by April 2nd, 2009 you will already have had the best day of your life.”
