reporterDee on Take-out

When I am alone, in a rush or just so inclined I support our local restaurants by placing a take-out order.  I carry virtually every menu for our area in my car...so I can call on my way home from work or errands.  Sometimes I even sneak something yummy into the movies…yes I am quite the rebel!

om Sahara on Market Street I am a big fan of their chicken salad pita, lamb gyro with that amazing cucumber sauce, broccoli salad, onion rings, and any of their homemade milk shakes – try the butterscotch one hot afternoon.

·         From Elizabeth's on Market Street or the new Slice of Life near Wrightsville Beach I get a pizza with hamburger, onions, and mushrooms.  Both places are delish – and different – which I love.

·         From Flaming Amy's on Oleander I order a doublewide shrimp, broccoli, guacamole, and black bean burrito – and with their homemade chips and salsa I get two meals.

·         Great Harvest (next to Tidal Creek) has the BEST cookies and breads.  I am a huge fan of the oatmeal raisin, and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies – which come in convenient to-go bags.  And their lemon blueberry bread is hard to eat with any self control.  Everything is so moist, fresh and delish.

·         From Indochine on Market I get mild red curry with pork.  I could bathe in the sauce...and I promise one order will last two meals.  I have tried to recreate this at home but alas...have given it up to the masters.

·         From Pita Delite on College I like their chicken salad pita.  On my throw- caution-to-the-wind days I crave their steak sandwich pita (with grilled onions and melted cheese) which one needs to eat with a bib and 20 napkins.  The secret sauce gives me goose bumps.  Seriously folks, an old colleague used to bribe me to drive cross-town on Friday afternoons to buy her two of these bad boys.  PLUS, the owners are adorably handsome brothers who greet you like family when you walk in the door.

·         From Szechuan 130 on North Front Street I like their Mu Shu pork (with extra pancakes) and their Shangelaila Chicken with broccoli.

·         Ken's Bagels (next to Steinmart) has really good egg salad.

·         Yo Sake's (on South Front) Firecracker shrimp have been known to grow a few hairs on my chest but darn is that scrumptious pain worth it!

·         Pilot House and Michael’s Seafood have the best seafood chowder – and make sure they give you bread for dipping.

·         For those of you who have not yet noticed, I am a big fan of good, homemade chicken salad.  Jersey Mike’s is my go-to for a chicken salad sub on wheat with onions, lettuce, and tomato, and oregano – plus the requisite potato chips crumbled up inside the sandwich.  Get the giant – and you have lunch and dinner.  I am also a fan of their grilled wraps…which are perfect for a picnic at the beach.

·         From Kornerstone I order the Shrimp Fra Diavolo pasta with a side Caesar or their grilled salmon with mashed potatoes and either asparagus or wilted spinach.

·         And from Nikki’s: sushi made with brown rice – a perfect summer supper.

·         Any flavor of homemade cheesecake (which comes in to-go slices next to the cash register) from Chris’ Cosmic Kitchen will make you very happy – especially at 10pm when you are curled up on the couch in your jammies watching Bravo.

Till next time folks, xoxoxoDee
