| Deluxe, Deluxe!: A Big Congratulations to Scott Haulman and Keith Rhodes |

If you haven't heard, then it's time you should: our hometown culinary heroes have done it again, and in a big way. Keith Rhodes, head chef of Deluxe restaurant, along with owner and certified chef Scott Haulman, worked together to create an award winning menu for the 2007 North Carolina Department of Agriculture's "Best Dish in NC" competition that took place in mid-August.After success in the preliminary stage and a stellar performance for a panel of mystery judges, Deluxe took first prize in the fine dining category for the entire state. Here's the fare that delivered a fine-dining victory: Snead's Ferry littleneck clams, Tom ka soup with NC river prawns , NC red grouper paired with steamed asparagus and fingerling potato-jumbo lump crab hash, with a dessert of North Carolina Blueberry white chocolate bread pudding. The reason for the North Carolina emphasis is the North Carolina Department of Agriculture's new program, "Goodness Grows in North Carolina ," which encourages local restaurants to use North Carolina products in their menus regularly, in order to promote the state and its quality products. Why did DineWilmingtonOnline.com decide to post this news now? It's because Deluxe's Keith Rhodes will be presented with both of his 1st place awards during the Paula Dean Show in Dorton Arena at the North Carolina State Fair on October 17, 2007. If you happen to be at the State Fair in Raleigh, be sure and drop in . If not, simply tune in and support our hometown kitchen authority. Look for DineWilmingtonOnline's follow-up article coming next week. Please be sure to stop in for dinner at Deluxe, located between Second Street and Front Street on Market , and give a big congratulation to Scott and Keith.
