el_guajirof01One of the best kept secrets? Yes, but not for long.
El Guajiro is one of those places that could be easily overlooked if it were not for the word-of-mouth praise that has begun circulating. What we know is that Great food drives us to try new locations and we encourage you to put this on your list of must try restaurants. It's nothing fancy, in fact its charm is in the fact that the menu is not extensive but provides the opportunity to try the best of the authentic Cuban cuisine offered.

Owners, husband and wife Alfredo & Leila Barrios simplified menu of  soup, 3 appetizers, 10 entrees and 5 sandwiches - also includes a daily special you just can't beat, a blackboard lunch served till 2pm for $5.00 (after 2pm $7.00). Located at 1015-A S. Kerr Avenue at the former Tazy's location, keep a look out to spot the restaurant in a small strip mall.  We have to recommend the Papa Rellena y Camarones (stuffed potato & Shrimp) appetizer and Ropa Vieja (Shredded Beef Creole), Filetillo Salteado de Pollo o Carne (Sauteed Strips of Chicken or Beef) and of course, The Cuban Special Sandwich. Two things you have to have - extra fresh Plantains and for dessert, you can not leave without trying the Flan! You won't be disappointed. Visit El Guajiro's restaurant page for more information and pictures.
