Those Dreaded New Year Resolutions PDF Print E-mail

Have you ever gone to the gym or a weight watchers meeting the first week in January? You can't even find a parking spot. It must be all of those New Years Resolutions to lose weight and get fit.
Now, come back to that same gym or Weight Watchers meeting in March and chances are that you'll find plenty of parking spaces, in fact, the place might be empty.
Why is it that so many of us find it so hard to keep our resolutions?
Some of us lose interest, and some of us get so caught up in the daily grind that we forget about taking care of ourselves. Some of us fall off the wagon the first time we go out for a wonderful meal.
Here are ten ways to eat out and still keep your resolution to lose weight, eat healthier and stay fit:
1.  Eat a healthy snack before you go out to eliminate any overbearing cravings.

2.  Avoid alcohol, (duh no brainer) but what are you supposed to do when the rest of the table is ordering drinks?  Instead I opt for club soda or sparkling water with lemon or lime.  It looks like a drink, bubbles like a drink so therefore it must be a drink.

3.  Order from the appetizer menu or a side salad for smaller portions.

4.  Avoid the bread and roll basket. (tough one for us carb addicts)

5.  Ask for the Low Fat Salad dressing on the side.

6.  Order your chicken or fish steamed, poached, broiled, roasted, boiled, grilled or baked.

7.  Use the smaller plates at buffets. (they have smaller plates?  ha ha)

8.  Stay away from cream, breaded or battered anything. This includes sauces, gravies, butter, alfredo, etc.

9.  Ask for the other half of your meal to be wrapped up. (At least you won't have to worry about what your having for dinner tomorrow night).

10.  Opt for the fresh fruit at dessert time.

11.  Ooops one more for good luck ask them to hold the salt. (Maybe they can put it in your hand so you can throw it over your shoulder).

GOOD LUCK and keep eating out!!!!!
