The best kept secret in Wilmington. [This] has fast become our favorite restaurant. The extensive menu and the unique specials, great service, cozy relaxed atmosphere keeps us coming back. We have never been disappointed. If you want to know where the locals go. this is it. The appetizers are especially good. The mini crabcakes with Thai sauce is my personal favorite. My wife loves the zucchini fries. Make sure you try their soups especially the lobster bisque. Their New Orleans style shrimp and grits is the best I have ever had. Their fresh catch Louisiana pan-fried puppy drum I had recently was great. Tuesday is rib night, I recommend Thai style. You can also get just about anything you want steamed.   The menu prices are very reasonable.

Went to find "Fresh" Cod before Thanksgiving.  They had it!  Looked nice too!  I bought 2 lbs. and it was delicious.  The price was fair (this particular Cod came from the Atlantic~Maine area) and it was really nice.  I'd go again - probably this time to dine in or sit at the bar and have a bit of a special with a nice draft.  The front service bar/restaurant was pleasant - would like to have met the "owners/chefs" from the back - they seemed happy to be where they were - go for it guys.  Good place - give it a try.

Wasabi Sushi:
This is the best sushi in Wilmington, hands down. They also have a large variety of other items on the menu. The staff is awesome, always super friendly. Always clean, roomy and the best tempura  ice cream dessert on the planet. Did I mention the sushi is to die for....

Midtown Seafood:
This was a great restaurant for the prices. Wilmington needed a mid price Seafood Restaurant. You will not be disappointed. Service is also good.

Korean BBQ Restaurant:
I went to the Korean BBQ with my wife, sister and her husband. We all left stuffed and satisfied. It is truly a unique dining experience in Wilmington.

The food is all made to order; their bi bim bop is really great. It's a dish served in a hot bowl with rice vegetables and meat. The ingredients are stirred together just before eating and then you add this mouth watering sauce I can only describe as liquid deliciousness. It was a bit spicy in general but they toned it down for my sister who doesn't really like spicy food.

I'd also recommend their BBQ beef and pajeon. Pajeon is a flat cake made with made with flour batter, eggs, and green onions/scallions. The best part is the dipping sauce which is made of some mixture soy sauce & vinegar.

Everything was scrumptious. The truth is, I was really impressed by the service, we never ran out of sides because they always kept bringing more. The waitress was really friendly and gave us recommendations from the menu.

The one drawback is that is hard to find. It is just behind the Citgo on Oleander. We drove by it a few times before realizing where it was.

Flaming Amy's Bowl:
Tucked away and a little hard to spot, is Flaming Amy's Bowl.  Enjoyed the food and atmosphere, but still prefer the burrito barn.  EAT AT FLAMING AMY'S! Member: Bethany

The Bowl is the best place to grab a delicious and healthy quick bite! They have tons of fresh vegetables and meat choices. Not to mention the different sauces to accompany it all. If you are of the vegetarian persuasion, they will clean a grill and get new, clean spatulas to make your meal and not make you feel stupid asking them to do so. My family eats here about 4 times a month and my mother travels from Maryland once a month to eat here as well. Keep up the good work, Jay and Amy!!!!!!!

The Little Dipper:
This cozy little restaurant ideally located downtown has great food for reasonable prices.  I especially love going for $8 cheese and chocolate fondue during ladies night!

Front Street Brewery:
LOVE Front St. Brewery!  Awesome food, tons of room, GREAT menu with a little bit of everything!!  They also donate to non-profit organizations/fundraisers all the time and are extremely generous even in this tough economic time.  GREAT beer specials and happy hour and fun bar!!

Mama Fu's:
I LOVE this restaurant!!  Their food is amazing (Potstickers & Thai "Dynamite" Shrimp is DELICIOUS!!!  And the Spicy General Fu, Honey Chicken and Pad Thai..YUM!)  It's great b/c you can get food that is thai, fried rice, Lo mein, something for everyone!  And VERY kid friendly!  Waitstaff is great, perfect location with outdoor seating and half price Evolution Wine on Thursdays!!  I would eat there every night if I could.  I almost do!!  Well priced too :)

Pita Delite:

We have been enjoying Pita Delite for years! It is always very clean inside, and as a  customer everyone is treated with friendliness and courtesy, above and beyond other sandwich shops. The food is great; over the years I have had everything on the menu and nothing has tasted bad. Once we had to wait a few minutes on our sandwiches, and a free appetizer of hummus was given to us. I highly recommend this place.

Marc's on Market:
"This is one of the top 2 or 3 restaurants in Wilmington.  It's a little harder to get a seat than before [the Chef] won that best chef contest so get reservations.  They also have a market next door where they sell things they use in the restaurant.  You'll be missing out if you don't eat here.  Worth the drive, even if you're downtown or at the beach." "Just a few weeks ago my wife and I went to Cafe Basil for my Cousin's wedding rehearsal dinner. Cafe Basil put together a small buffet for all of us in there back banquet room. They served fettucini alfredo, chicken parm, pork chops braised in a tomato sauce which was great, and a baked ziti all with salad and bread and it was just great. when I get a chance I will be back. Flaming Amy's Bowl:
"A place to have just about anything you want and all you want. As all the people who know me know- I am a big eater. I can do about 2 bowls and that's it. All the vegetables, chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, etc... and you can get tortillas too so it can be finger food if you like and that works great or our 5 year old. I have been going there for a few months since a friend turned me on to the place. It has gotten busier since then. If it keeps growing they might have to expand. It can get busy at certain times but it is worth the wait. Go see for yourself. If you try it and don't like it, well that just leaves more for me!" Member Trey L.

 "Chris' Cosmic Kitchen has it all going on!  If you haven't already tried their food, you have to go there.  Absolutely, hands down, the best!  The cook (who I believe is also the owner)is great.  I can't say enough about him - he really knows how to cook! It always comes out of the kitchen fresh and hot.  There's nothing worse than spending good money on cold food.  I have always gotten excellent serve and hot food at Chris.'  Everyone there is really friendly and exceeds expectations as far as service goes.  I've only been there for lunch. We had such great service and the food is to die for! The only thing is I would advise not to bring a large party...it is a small restaurant but it makes up for that in other ways. Dan's Mason Bistro:

"Wilmington, NC is a destination of many tourists who enjoy the less flashy feel of our friends an hour south in Myrtle Beach SC.  We are like the "anti-MB". 
MB has many qualities and is indeed fun, no doubt.  But visitors to the NC Cape Fear Coast come here because of something else:  a slower, more organic fun time sans the glitz, lights and stress of MB. 
At Dan's Mason Bistro we have an intimate setting (I counted maybe 12 tables last night) devoid of low-cost "Tourist Food".  The finest and best among Wilmington's Top 10 eateries. 
The Best.
It is hands down the finest food and presentation I've ever tasted and experienced, ever. 
Our server, Kelly (daughter of Owner Dan), treated this party of five with incredible knowledge, attention and focus.  She and her support staff were without peer.
This is not a place on the strip.  Dan's Mason Bistro is located on Masonboro Loop Road, one of the oldest "roads" in all of North Carolina.
To Get There:  Head S on S College Road then East on US 76 for an 1/8 of a mile, right on Pine Grove Rd -- roll down PGR about a mile 'til you arrive at a big rural junction --  stay right and keep rolling south for another mile.  DMB is on the left as you head south, located at a smallish white business/restaurant complex.

Within DMB there's an eat-at bar, intimate and perfect.  To the left and back are a line of tables (12?) that are the places where guests will find themselves beyond happy.
I have never had finer food in my 42 years.  Expensive?  Not really, considering the fact that the taste and texture of everything is beyond excellent.  I paid for 3 and the final bill w/tip was $150+.  We did not hold back on the apps, beers, wine and dessert.
The main reason the food's so perfect is because this wonderful spot feeds the locals  --  and the locals is who has the real love and money to pay for quality.
This is not a tourist trap (but vistors MUST attend).  Tourists to Wilmington NC should ensure that this spot is the FIRST spot they attend.  It's that good.
You must order the Shrimp and Polenta Appetizer.  You must.  In addition, the Fried Green Tomatoes appetizer will make you forget your name. 
Entrees from Crabcakes to Lamb Rack to Sweet Potato Ravioli to Chicken Bistro Pasta to Grouper Special were so engaging, so tasteful, so incrediby good I can not wrap it up in this review. 
Food is a gift from God; this place is proof.
An absolute gem, bar none.
Treat your wife, friends and family to the best.

"The things that Chip does with seafood are amazing.  His scallops melt in your mouth, the red crab bisque is delicious, and my personal favorite - the mahi - is to die for.  He serves it with a sweet lemon butter sauce.  His vegetables are always delicious, and you have to try his mashed potatoes.  My family also loves his Delmonico steak.  The restaurant has a great atmosphere; customers would be comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt or in suits/cocktail dresses.  And the management is always very visible and regularly checks on customers." The Little Dipper:

"Everything about this restaurant is amazing.  The atmosphere is very romantic and eclectic.  The tables are semi-private and cozy, and the staff is very friendly and alwasy ready with recommendations.  And the food is amazing; they are constantly adding new items to the menu.  Be prepared though; Little Dipper is not a fast food restaurant.  The entire 4-course meal (cheese fondue, salads, main course, and dessert fondue) takes about 2 hours total.  It's a little pricy (the 4-course meal costs about $80 for a couple), but it's worth it, and it's cheaper than other fondue restaurants.  They also have weekly specials; Tuesdays - couples splitting a meal for two get a discount.  My favorite is Ladies' Night every Wednesday; ladies get cheese and chcocolate fondue for $8 a person.  Make a reservation though; it's a very popular place on Wednesday nights!" Water Street Restaurant:
"Each month the Waterford Dining Group goes to a restaurant in the local area.  The dinner this month was at the Water Street Restaurant at 5 South Water Street in downtown Wilmington.  Some of our members had been there on their own and strongly recommended it as a fun place with good food.  It is just that." 39 of us had a wonderful time.  The venue is a building from 1835.  It is very rustic but also very warm and inviting.  Basically one large room with a bar, tables and an area for entertainers.
The management and service were excellent.  Obviously very experienced and extremely capable.  The menu had recently been reworked to broaden the selections and to eliminate some of the fried entrees.  The most expensive item on the menu is $18.50.  So this represents a very affordable place to eat.  And not just reasonably priced food, but good food.  Our whole table had the Grouper which was written up as their signature dish.  It was tasty and fresh and when is the last time you had Grouper for $16.50.
Once again I think we were afraid this would be one of the tourist traps because of the location.  It may attract visitors to our beautiful area but they still know how to provide good service and good food.
There was entertainment that started about 8pm.  A couple of our diners go on the 1st or 3rd Friday when the entertainer does sing-a-longs that we can even sing to!!!
All in all an great evening and you can walk around the waterfront afterwards.

Cafe Basile Italian Grill:
"Stopped by and ate here this weekend after a long day at the Azalea Festival hoping that I might finally get some REAL Italian food.  Started with the calamari, and it turns out they make it fresh and bread it themselves so that was a nice treat, then tried the Seafood Pasta special and it was truly fantastic! My wife had the Eggplant Parmesan and I do believe we've found the first Italian place that has real home-style like back home in new jersey.  The owners are from New York, very nice people, Finally! Tayste:
"In one word, Tayste is SUBLIME.  Last night, with a party of four friends, I experienced great cuisine and service that blows away all other Wilmington "fine dining-type" establishments. Parking was a breeze, as we parked across the side street (2nd) in the large County Parking Deck.  Located in the space that formerly housed the now defunct Tango du Chat restaurant at 123 Princess  Street, Tayste has taken what was a poorly designed space and transformed it to a hip, urban, yet comfortable dining room.  We entered the restaurant into the bar area, which was full of young professionals, local who's-who, couples having drinks pre-Thalian, and a smattering of well-heeled patrons scoffing down martinis and aged scotch.  We started with some cocktails at the bar before dinner and enjoyed the small bar tables and chairs that were available nearby.  The bar features two plasma type TVs, discreetly placed and with no sound.  We were pleasantly surprised with the wide selection of libations, including a beer connoisseurs collection of both bottled and draft beer.  The wine list was impressive, without being exhaustive.  The bartenders were knowledgeable and efficient.  One in our party was a smoker, and she enjoyed the fact that smoking is allowed in the bar.  After drinks, we moved over to the separate dining room, where the host delivered us to a lovely table near the windows which overlook Princess Street.  We were thankful that all traces of the previous restaurant had been replaced by thoughtful furnishings that encouraged lingering and comradely over a delicious meal.  New owner/Chef Paul Riggan has infused the space with upholstered banquettes, added cushioned chairs with backs, and created seating areas that are luxuriously offset by dramatic draperies, which create a warmly inviting intimacy within the space. 
  Our server greeted us and took another drink order and served deliciously hot whole-grain bread and offered olive oil, balsamic vinegar and fresh cracked pepper to dip in.  After getting the drinks, we ordered appetizers and placed our dinner order.  The server had an exhaustive knowledge of the wines on the list and was able to make suggestions to pair with our meal. 
  The appetizers were beautiful.  The BBQ Duck was exceptional, and served over smoked cheddar grits, the grilled scallops were delicious, as was the veal crostini.  A total visual masterpiece, the sesami tuna was a delight in taste and presentation. 
  After the appetizer course, some of us had ordered salads, the House Salad was beautifully wrapped in a hothouse cucumber, which created a little package on the plate.  The Baby Blue salad was artfully presented within a baby head of iceberg lettuce that was hollowed-out to create it's own bowl.  Needless to say the dressings were all exceptional and of the freshest quality.
  Our meal arrived with ooos and aahhs from our table.  I ordered the Alaskan Halibut, which was finished with a white wine butter broth.  Unbelievable!!  My husband had the Beef Tenderoin, topped with a truffle-chive butter, and said it was the best he had ever eaten.  Our friends had the Grouper Oscar, piled high with jumbo lump crab and topped with bearnaise sauce and the Double Cut Pork Chop which was served over potatoes, cremini mushrooms, baby spinach and topped with a roasted garlic demi-glaze. 
  We took our time with the meal, enjoying the great wines and comradely.  We also enjoyed people watching, as a panoply of Wilmington names could be spotted here and there.  There was a group from the film industry at the next table over from us and a well-know real-estate mogul next to them. People watching aside, the dessert menu looked great, but we were all full.  We decided to save room for dessert on our next visit.
  We all agreed that Tayste gave us the best meal in recent memory, and blew away other similar restaurants in both service and cuisine.  Our server was efficient yet friendly, and when we asked about Chef Riggan, she told us about the Chef's other restaurant in High Point, NC, Bluewater Grille.  For those in the know, Bluewater Grille is such a draw that it is booked every night, reservation only, and people drive from all over the Triad area to dine there.  After tasting Chef Riggan's food here in Wilmington, it is only a matter of time before that happens here as well.
  In summary, the atmosphere was stellar, the food fabulous, and the service, exemplary.  Prices are $6-11 for appetizers, $6-11 for salads, and $18-$39 for Entrees.  The restaurant also has nightly specials.  I also look forward to coming in to the bar for girls-night-out and quaffing down a Godiva Chocolate Martini.  Bon Appetit! "Last night, Dine Wilmington had a special event at El Agave. It was our first time to this restaurant. As frequent travelers to Mexico, my husband and I remarked how it felt like we were back in Puerto Vallarta. There were bowls of bean dip, salsas and chips on our table. The margaritas were great! The food was delicious and plentiful. The owner was coaxed into joining the guitarist in a song ( not a bad voice ).....another customer got up and was singing....it felt so homey and we all had so much fun. The George on the Riverwalk
"If you are looking for great food with great atmosphere - downtown Wilmington is the place to go.  We ate at The George on the Riverwalk.  The food at The George was great and the service was great.  You can't beat the view at The George. The restaurant looks out over the water and at night the atmosphere is great.  The food is hard to beat.  Each person in the group ordered something different (so that we could all get a taste) - everything tasted great.  but we couldn't end the night without dessert - the cheesecake was great!  Try it!  I hope you and your friends enjoy it as much as we did." "Locally owned, this is the type of place you need to support because when the economy massively tanks as it's going to these  types of places will be the ones you and your families will need to have around in order to keep nourished, because the powers that be at the chain restaurants will be long gone and shuttered. Sound a little sci-fi? Well don't distress, Kornerstone is here, and with your support will be for a long time. I'm not one to cheer for anyone or anything not deserving, so understand this is a place that is super. It's clean, attractive, has outdoor tables if you like, a great menu selection that includes genuine Italian ice cream, in not one but about 12 flavors, shall I go on? Hmmm I shall. The tables are tasteful as are the floors. One person in our party, a local business owner who has two beautiful children that were with us, remarked that the interior has no fabrics, nothing that could absorb liquid. It's family and single friendly. Now the food. Hmmm... did I say awesome? The panini is something like you'll never get from Stouffers, and the salad was incredible with heir own special dressings in little tea-cup like porcelain containers. "This was one of the Highlights of our vacation to the NC Coast this year.  The food was fantastic.  We had four people in our party and we all loved our food.  The crab legs are divine, and a great value as well.  The catfish was cooked to perfection and topped with the best Country Gravy I've ever tasted in my life.  Be sure to save room for dessert though.  I suggest the apple cobbler.  My mouth's watering just thinking about it.  The meal was PERFECT, and the service was just as good.  If you visit the Pilot House and are lucky enough to get a Waiter named Quintin, you are in for a treat.  He was wonderful! Our glasses stayed full, and every request was promptly responded to.  Great food, Great value, and Great service.  We will definitely be returning to the Pilot House!"

"Dockside recognizes it is a seafood restaurant and prepares its dishes to perfection - not covered in sauces and cheese.  When they do choose to use a sauce it complements the dish and doesn't overpower it. They also embrace their location and don't lock you in away from the view, the smell and feel of the waterway.  There are 3 seafood restaurants one right after the other - the Dockside is always crowded, the others... not so much.  It is by far the favorite!"

"After visiting Double Happiness many times since their first week, I believe I can now say that they have some of the best, if not the best Chinese food I have ever eaten.

While there are things on the menu I like less than others (of course), overall, I have been continually surprised by the quality and versatility of their offerings.

When my parents came to town, it was just a given I would take them there, and I was right on. My parents had a wonderful time, loved their food, and the atmosphere was perfect.

Also, their tea menu is very nice, offering something for every tea lover - and I LOVE a good tea with my Asian food.

Don't forget the Dim Sum... The Double Steamer is my favorite start to every meal now.

Mai, Keiko and Ellen are three of the most wonderful people I have ever had serve/feed me.

As far as negatives... I feel like I have to add some, to be balanced. This is NOT  a menu for novices to Chinese food. If you are only used to Chinese take-out or American-ized foods, you will probably not find a lot on the menu that is familiar. In fact, I have spoken to many people who found themselves not sure what to order. I guess the descriptions could be better (or have pictures - better yet!)

If you find yourself in that position, take advantage of Mei or Keiko's familiarity with their menu, and tell them what you normally like. They will be happy to suggest something.

Banyan Asian Cafe has some of the best Asian food we've had in town. The ingredients are fresh, the food well-prepared, and the servers are knowledgable. The pad-thai is not overly sweet and anything ordered medium-spicy is not overpowered by heat, but is just extremely flavorful. Member: Andie R.
