Our first Dine Wilmington Foodies Meetup has come and gone and I am excited about making plans for the next one! One would think that someone who spends as much time as I do in local restaurants would cringe at the thought of doing it in their spare time. Wrong! I hardly get to dine out and experience it from the perspective of the consumer, I am usually talking to owners, watching the servers, doing anything but enjoying the experience. Within the first few minutes of our first meeting at Nicola's, I told everyone at the table of my selfish motives - they accepted me none-the-less. I would make arrangements for us to enjoy meals and experiences in Wilmington restaurants and all I wanted was to sit back, talk, meet new people and enjoy dining out with a group. So, with our first 10 members of the Dine Wilmington Foodies group, we set out to do just that! Our hosts at Nicola's were absolutely wonderful. Both Christine and Nick Pittari visited the table and spent time with the group. Something I view as very admirable in the local owners circle - five stars go out to them for that. Each of the members felt welcomed and attended to. Nick talked about his pasta making and invited the group back for an exclusive tasting of different types of pasta. I don't think that there was an objection in the group. We all spent time introducing ourselves and determining what would work for this group. We all agreed on diversity of experience. Some set dinners, some off the menu, tastings, brunches - we were up for it all. With 29 registered members, I am considering having several offerings each month. Everyone has different schedules and it is hard to accommodate but, I am sure going to try. I just can't say enough - this was a great experience! If you would be interested in the Dine Wilmington Foodies Meetup - visit www.meetup.com and search for the Dine Wilmington Foodies Group. We hope to see you in the group soon. |
