Kefi

Kefi, founded in 1981 by a group of friends, has a long-standing tradition as a local watering hole.  The small original building under the oaks remains much unchanged, attracting an eclectic afternoon crowd who revel in dissecting the day’s news, perpetuating worthy gossip, and generally enjoying one another’s company.  Three additions to the original structure, (pool room, music room and full service kitchen) have positioned Kefi where it is today.  The Greek word “Kefi” means “amusement” or “diversion from life” and in broader terms connotes a sense of fellowship.  For the Wilmingtonite or fortunate traveler this translates to a break from the stresses of everyday life to lose oneself to a sense of unforgiving relaxation.  Heck, you might even see NFL star and Kefi regular Roman Gabriel if you’re lucky…

Kefi offers arcade games, jukeboxes, darts, horseshoes, a pool table, 6 TVs, and 5 more on the way.  If you can’t find a seat at the over 100 feet of bar space, mosey on outside and grab one of the 28 seats on the outdoor deck.  Old and young alike, come together reaping the benefits of full ABC permits, the “coldest beer in Wilmington”, and an infamous drink called the “click clack” that will make you howl at the moon (if you’re in the dark on this one, you’re just going to have to come on in and try one on for size).

But after 26 years of success, Kefi has established bar reputation has come to be only half of what makes the restaurant a success.  Kefi offers live entertainment of all types, having hosted big names such as Edwin McCain, and local music legend Nick Ponos.  Weekends at Kefi have become a hot spot in the Cape Fear area as a music venue, covering a wide variety of sounds.  A complete list can be found at the link to their website www.kefilive.com.  Private rooms are available for groups of 20 to 100 with the added option of full bar rental.  Let Kefi do your next big birthday, fundraising, Christmas or company party with mouth watering Creole style and good ‘ole southern food that’s worth writing home about.

Don’t get confused thinking that Kefi only caters to the crowds of the night, because things at the Kefi go late, but they also start early.  Open at 6am every day of the week; sit yourself down for a hearty breakfast featuring 9 types of omelets, bacon, biscuits, grilled pork chops, shrimp and grits, Kielbasas, pancakes, and a whole myriad of other breakfast staples.  Head out to the beach and then come right on back for lunch or dinner, and dive right in to a Poboy sandwich, chicken philly sub, red beans and rice, angus cheeseburger, plate of crab balls, or pick from a list of specials that will make your taste buds scream with bliss.  In fact, if you’re not wiping the saliva from your keyboard right now, you must have been reading from right to left.  So try it again and then head over to Kefi for just about whatever your heart desires.
