Meet the owners of Laterna Mediterranean Grille & Tavern. Located at 911 South College Road, Yianni and Antonia are astounding Wilmington restaurant foodies with their incredible selection of authentic Greek and Mediterranean cuisine. But, that's not all. Not only does Laterna offer plates for every taste, they serve breakfast, lunch & dinner as well as offer a full service bar! Last but not least, we have to mention the selection of fresh prepared dessert items that can not be overlooked (you may want to order one before you eat - if not, save room!).

"My fiancé and I recently had the pleasure of dining at Laterna, a newly opened Mediterranean restaurant.  We were both thoroughly impressed with not only our meals, but the excellent service as well.  I chose a traditional Greek dish of Moussaka, and can honestly say that it was absolutely the best I've ever had. My finance went with a seafood entree of seared scallops which he loved.  The chef's choice of perfectly blended seasonings and rich butter made the scallops a must have for any food lover.  We finished off our meal with their homemade Galaktaboureko.  From start to finish, we were continually impressed with this new restaurant's capabilities.  We can't wait until our next visit."

Laterna Mediterranean Grille & Tavern Owners Spotlight:
Yianni & Antonia

Yianni was born and raised on the beautiful island of Cyprus. He came to the United States in his twenties to study Aviation. He earned his Associate’s Degree and Aircraft Maintenance license from the Academy of Aeronautics at La Guardia Airport. He later obtained his pilot’s license from American Flyers. During all this time he did what many Greeks did to put himself through school. From dishwasher, to bus boy, to waiter, he worked his way up the restaurant ladder. He worked at places such as Piraeus My Love, Sunrise Coffee Shop, Brass Rail and the famous Wolf’s Delicatessen and Restaurant.

 

 Antonia was born in New York and moved to Wilmington in the early 70’s when her parents bought the White Front Breakfast House. She studied music composition and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from UNC-W and later her Master’s Degree in Music Composition from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. At the age of fifteen she began working at the family business and continued through high school and college. Though their fields of study are worlds apart, they have a lot in common. They both grew up in the restaurant business; they both love to cook; they both love to entertain friends and family; and they both have a deep respect for their Greek heritage. Being the proud owners of the White Front since 1994, their dream was to open a Greek restaurant; a place where Yianni could grill his awesome fish, steaks and chops; a place where Antonia could serve her traditional Greek and Cypriot specialties  such as moussaka, pastichio, spanakopita and savory sarmadakia to name a few. They wanted to create a “taverna” style gathering spot where, good food, wine and conversation could be experienced, and where the tradition of Greek hospitality could be celebrated. In February of 2006 their dream became a reality when they opened Laterna Mediterranean Grille and Tavern. Together with their talented staff they look forward to serving you the best Greek and Mediterranean food imaginable.
