AnnTony's Caribbean Cafe

The Story of AnnTony's

In 1968, Dr. Tony Martin, a PhD in nutrition and born in Bristish Guyana, immigrated to the United States, bringing with him secret recipes handed down to him through generations of his family. He moved to Charlotte, NC in 1986 and opened a small cafe with a menu straight from the heart of the Caribbean. It is named after his mother, Ann, and himself, Tony. It is still located in Charlotte, NC at the corner of 7th Street and Pecan Avenue.

AnnTony's Caribbean Cafe has won many awards, received favorable reviews and accolades for its innovative style and tasty island cuisine. Rotisserie chicken marinated and seasoned for authentic Caribbean flair has made this restaurant famous. This flavorful fare caused such a stir; Dr, Martin had to create his unique and flavorful sauce and dry spice for retail sale. All of the sauces and spices are bottled right here in Wilmington.

Gary Rowe, the owner and operator of AnnTony's in Wilmington, grew up in Wrightsville Beach and attended New Hanover High School. After his military career, Gary took a job at Dupont. Upon retiring Gary embarked on a new career; as former owner of Gary and Mel's Backyard Grill; and now AnnTony's Caribbean Cafe. With over 20 years of catering experience under his belt, Gary is well known in the industry for his catering menu.
